whenever i look for writing insipration i see that a lot of people write poetry about oranges and clementines. i keep thinking about how clemency is a word we have for kindness, compassion, and humaneness. i remember learning about clementia, the greek goddess of forgivness and redemption. the greeks also believed clementines cure fevers and warm your stomach. spanish speakers sometimes say "mi media naranja" or "my half of an orange" in place of what we might call a soulmate. clementines are assocated with warmth but considered the "winter citrus" since their growing season is during our winter, and i only recently heard that clementines are traditionally given in christmas stockings (which is adorable). orange blossoms were used for bouquets and garlands in victorian times to symbolize eternal love. historians think the word for orange comes from "sanskrit nagaranja" or "favorite fruit of the elephants." and the fields where these citrus trees grow are referred to as "the land kissed by the sun." these are considered the shareable fruits, an act of love, made to be an offering. i have seen them symbolize affection, healing, and vunerability for many cultures or even just individual writers.
but most importantly, they have been reminding me of you. so i made a little tribute page because i can code now !! you may have seen some of this stuff on our pinterest board, but here it is all put together.
